About Veg Camp

FOR EARTH - FOR ANIMALS - FOR US

Enjoy a unique and enriching camp experience! Our engaging nature-based activities use critical and balanced thinking to understand the connections between us, animals and the environment. Yoga and meditation-mindfulness are introduced as fun physical and mental exercises to lead healthy, fulfilling, and conscientious lives. This camp is for youth in between ages 9 to 17. Camp is limited to 70 campers to ensure an intimate and inclusive environment so be sure sign up as soon as you can!  Vegetarian Eco Camp is run by a charity, as well is non-denominational and welcoming all faiths and cultures.

We are excited to announce that Vegetarian Eco Camp will be returning to the YMCA Cedar Glen Outdoor Centre, just north of Toronto, Ontario from July 5-11, 2026

LOCATION & ACCOMMODATIONS

Veg Camp is held at YMCA Cedar Glen Outdoor Centre in Schomberg, Ontario just 40 minutes north of Toronto! Camp runs from July 5-11, 2026.

The Centre is on 263 acres of the Oak Ridges Moraine, and boasts many hiking trails, swimming pools, a super maze, new high ropes and low rope challenges, open playing fields, an organic farm, arts cabin, archery, and more.  Further, campers will enjoy the fun indoor games lounge, comfortable teaching spaces, and dining hall with an awesome view!

Campers will be sleeping in groups of 4, in bedrooms with a private bathroom and shower. The bedrooms are located within a large lodge. Male and female identifying campers will use separate wings of the lodge. Campers sleep on comfortable bunk beds. Waterproof mattresses are provided, campers need to bring their own bedding and pillows

HEALTH & SAFETY

Camper health and safety is a priority at camp. The staff at camp is experienced and qualified. YMCA Cedar Glen instructors and lifeguards are all First Aid and CPR-C certified. Ropes challenge courses are run by trained and certified staff.

Furthermore, a licensed medical doctor is on call (24/7) throughout camp to address any health concerns. The medical doctor will contact the parents/guardians if there are any significant health concerns with a camper. The Brampton Civic Hospital is the closest hospital and is under 25 minutes away.

We maintain a minimum of 1 : 10 counsellor to camper ratio, allowing us to remain attentive to the individual needs of each camper.

Counsellors will sleep in each wing of the lodge and are available to help campers should the need arise at any time.

This is not your typical camp food! Campers indulge in delicious and nutritious plant-based meals. No animal products are found in the foods, beverages, or snacks we serve. We are a nut-free facility.

MEET OUR TEAM

Chirag Shah

CAMP STAFF

Vegetarian Eco Camp is operated by camp director, Chirag Shah – an experienced board member who is committed to providing campers with a fulfilling, fun and safe camp environment. Chirag is continuously curious and loves to learn about how the world is changing around him. He brings his passion of innovation to campers by offering a scientific yet simple approach to the human body and ecology.  He has been involved with summer youth camps for over 15 years.

HARI ADNANI

CAMP STAFF

After building the best memories of his childhood at Veg Camp, Hari came back in 2022 to give the next generation of campers that same amazing experience. Hari helps the team develop the curriculum and is always looking for new ways to teach & learn about mindfulness, people, and the planet. For the other 51 weeks of the year, Hari goes to school at Wilfrid Laurier University and you can usually find him reading, rock climbing, or trying to find the next best vegan restaurant. Hari’s favourite parts of Veg Camp are teaching, campfire songs, and the talent show.

EVAN WHEELER

CAMP STAFF

Since 2016, Evan has been spending the most exciting week of his year losing his voice at Veg Camp – first as a camper, and now as a counselor and director, seeking to bring the joy and magic of camp to the next generation. He is always looking to create a more exciting camp environment through campwide activities and the House Games, which he has helped to co-ordinate since joining the directorial team in 2022. Outside of camp, Evan spends his time studying law, cooking vegan food, and traveling. His favourite parts of Veg Camp are the House Games (of course), outdoor activities, and the delicious food.

ARIANNA ELDER-JOHNSON

CAMP STAFF

Arianna has spent a week of her summer at Veg Camp since 2016. Starting off as a camper and working her way up to director, she aspires to bring the same love and acceptance she received to the next generation of campers.

Outside of camp, Arianna is a university student studying Environment and Health, and Art History. She spends most of her free time reading and drawing.

Her favourite parts of Veg Camp include yoga, archery, and campfires!

COUNSELLORS

You couldn't BE in better hands

Our Camp Counsellors are wonderful and quite often the camp team is made up of former campers!  Their enthusiasm energizes the camp experience, while their care and attentiveness is appreciated by campers and parents. Counsellors are recruited and trained by the camp directors and remain at the camp site full time.

CHEF

Food both nutritious & delicious

The YMCA Cedar Glen provides us with excellent a professional chef dedicated to providing campers and staff with delicious, nutritious, and kid-approved plant-based meals and scrumptious desserts. Campers and staff really appreciate the effort and dedication shown by the chef and kitchen staff.
